Killyleagh - Things to do

The modest charm of Killyleagh and the surrounding district offers a wide range of activities to both aid relaxation and stimulate private reflection on the workshops and activities.

Coarse, fly and sea fishing are all available within approximately 3 miles of the Coaching Inn, and instruction is available for the less confident among you. You can fish from either the shore or from boats.

Killyleagh Harbour
If you are of an energetic or sporty disposition, we can offer a wide range of activities to get the adrenaline pumping, both on land and water. Cycling, golf, horse riding and walking are amongst the solid ground activities, whilst sailing and scuba diving are the offerings for the water babies of the group.

If you would prefer to be at one with nature, there are various areas and centres where you can meet the local feathered wildlife, not least the Castle Espie Wildfowl and Wetlands Centre, or, more naturally, Murlough Nature Reserve. If meeting fascinating wild animals is not enough for you, or if you find the scenery too breathtaking to ignore, there are photography workshops available where a local expert will help you create a set of phenomenal memories.

In the area there are several stately homes and gardens where tours are available if staying in a castle prompts you to take a step back in time. Castleward, Castlewellan Castle, and even Killyleagh Castle all offer the opportunity to wander through the ages. If that doesn’t satisfy your historical needs, within the small area of Downpatrick and Killyleagh there are various unique and fascinating attractions to visit: Down Cathedral, St Patrick’s Grave, Saul Church, Struell Wells, and the Steam Railway in Downpatrick to name but a few.
